Carbon Buildup Is Common On Direct-Injection Engines
On many direct-injection engines, fuel no longer washes over the back of the intake valves. Over time, oil vapor and crankcase deposits build up inside the intake ports and on the valves themselves. That buildup reduces airflow and can create rough idle, misfires, hesitation, poor throttle response, and cold-start issues.
